Sun, Salt, and Sea Page 1 | 2 | 3
Why does the Dead Sea have unique restorative qualities? According to the Dead Sea Research Center, the area contains a unique solar irradiation, an increased oxygen density, a high-density salty sea with an unusual salt composition, thermo-mineral springs, and a special natural mud. The sun shines on the Dead Sea 330 days a year!
Sunny, yet safe: At the lowest point on Earth, 400 meters below sea level, the sun’s harmful rays are filtered out resulting in low amounts of UV and UVB radiation.
Mud, glorious mud: The thick, dark mud is an alluvial sediment is rich in minerals and sulfide compounds and has become renowned for its efficacy in treating various ailments and conditions.
Health-enriching environment: The climatic conditions at the Dead Sea remain steady almost all year round — high temperatures, low rainfall, and a low pollen count. The air boasts a higher oxygen density and is rich in magnesium and bromine.
Mineral-rich atmosphere and water: The water's high salt content is not suitable for swimming, but its density allows visitors to float effortlessly. The water nourishes the skin, easing rheumatic discomfort, activating the circulatory system, and relaxing the nerves
The Dead Sea contains 21 minerals including sodium, magnesium, bromine, bitumen, and potassium.
Natural treatments provide relief for skin diseases (such as psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis), rheumatic illnesses, respiratory disease as well as eye, cardio, and even gastroenterological diseases.
A number of different treatments take advantage of the healing effects of the Dead Sea:
Climato-therapy — employs climatic features such as temperature, humidity, sunshine, barometric pressure, and special atmospheric constituents
Helio-therapy — uses the biological effects of the sun's radiation
Thalasso-therapy — utilizes bathing in seawater
Balneo-therapy — makes use of mineral mud
